"Border" in proposed name on amalgamation

Postby plbramham » Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:25 pm

I've just read that The Duke of Lancs was initially to be known as "The King's, Lancashire and Border Regiment" ! - that would have satisfied some of the veterans who are always grumbling about their regiment from Westmorland & Cumberland being called " Lancashire"!
At least it would have retained "Border" in the title. Paul.

I totally agree; The King's, Lancashire and Border Regiment sounds better.....well to me it does anyway.

To be proud of the Westmorland and Cumberland heritage only to have the name Lancashire in the title is bound to be somewhat annoying :-(
In memory of John Bardgett (15309 L/Cpl.), 11th Border Regiment who died 1st July 1916.
