Locations and postings of 1st Bn King’s Own Royal Border Regiment 1959-2006

Compiled from old issues of “The Lion & the Dragon” regimental journal, plus website entries, hence I believe these dates & locations to be accurate,( but no doubt some old sweats will tell me if I’m a month or so out!) Paul

1959 1st October. Regiment formed by the amalgamation of 1st Bn, The King’s Own Royal (Lancaster) Regiment and 1st Bn The Border Regiment.
1959 October- England. A & SP Coys Westwick Camp. B, C, & HQ Coys at Humbleton Camp, Barnard Castle.
1960 September - Cameroons. A & S Coys at Bamenda in the North, C & HQ Coys at Buea in the South,& B Coy in centre at Kumba.
1961 May- England. Barford Camp, Barnard Castle.
1962 April- Germany. Keightley Barracks, Wuppertal.
1964 April- Heathfield Barracks, Honiton.
1964 December to September 1965 -British Guiana
1966 August & September - Public duties, London.
1966 October- Aberfan.
1967 February- Bahrain.
1967 May- November- Two Coys in Aden. C Coy last unit to leave Aden 29/11/67.
1968 February- Cyprus Salamanca Barracks Episkopi .A Coy at Slim Barracks Dhekelia,also coy desert warfare training in Libya.
1969- Cyprus. C Coy Slim Barracks Dhekelia. Coy en route for Libya desert training deployment. Turned back at sea when Gaddafi took control.
1969 - Company group to Gibraltar.
1970 February- England. Roman Barracks, Colchester.
1970 November - Gibraltar. Rotating Coy deployments North Front Airfield Battalion.
1971 10th-31st March- Northern Ireland Emergency Tour. Border & Belfast. Based Flax Street Mill Belfast.
1971- Malaysia Burma camp battalion warfare training.
1971 December- Northern Ireland. Abercorn Barracks, Ballykinlar.
1973 July - England. Saighton Camp, Chester.
1974 January - Germany. Elizabeth Barracks Minden.
1974 December- April 1975 - Northern Ireland. Hasting Street Battalion, Belfast – Falls,Divis, Sandy Row, Unity, Shankill.
1975 June - October 1976 - Northern Ireland. Springfield Road Battalion, Belfast.
1977 December - England. Weeton Barracks. Preston.
1978 September- January 1979. Northern Ireland. Belfast- Ardoyne, New Lodge, City Centre, Markets.
1979 July & August – Canada. BATUS Battalion training.
1980 February-June - Northern Ireland. Bessbrook Battalion. Bessbrook Mill, Crossmaglen,Forkhill,Newry, Newtonhamilton.
1980 July- Tercentenary celebrations. New colours presented by HRH Princess Alexandra.
1981 January - Berlin. Montgomery Barracks.
1983 March - England. Somme Barracks, Catterick
1983 July-November - Falkland Islands. Battalion deployment.
1984 April & May - Cyprus. Exercise Lion Sun.
1985 March -Northern Ireland. Palace Barracks, Holywood.
1987 February -England. Meeanee Barracks, Colchester.
1987 April & May - Northern Ireland. Armagh.
1987 December-June 1988- Cyprus.
1989 April-September - Northern Ireland. Operation Fondant.
1992 August- Northern Ireland. Ebrington Barrracks, Londonderry.
1995 April- England. Bourlon Barracks, Colchester.
1997 October-May 1998. - Bosnia Stabilisation Force.
1999 January-June - Macedonia. B Coy group, Extraction Force.
2000 April-October.- Bosnia. Stabilisation Force.
2001 April- Cyprus. Salamanca Barracks.Episkopi.
2001 November- February 2002 - Falkland Island. Coy group.
2002 26th April- New colours presented by HRH Princess Alexandra at Happy Valley, Cyprus.
2003 September- England. St George Barracks, North Luffenham.
2004 June- December- Northern Ireland. Province Reinforcement Battalion.
2005 October- Iraq. Operation Telic 7
2006 1st July- Renamed 3rd Bn The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.
