National Service 1955 to 1957

Postby cleatorman » Tue May 17, 2011 8:46 pm

Hi everyone I am a new member to the Forum. I live in Cleator Moor Cumbria, and was in the Border Regiment National Service intake Sept 1955 to 1957.I have attached a picture of the intake, taken after our passing out parade at the Castle Carlisle. Maybe some of you out there may recognize yourselves? I myself was in Loo's Platoon service number 23176671
Before going late 1955 down to Chichester on a Clerks Course, before joining the Battalion in Gottingen Germany, in the Orderly Room, from there I became Post NCO to the Battalion I was demobbed in Sept 1957.

Welcome to the forum Tom, or do you prefer cleatorman? ;-)

Great photo of the intake, I love looking at old photos and postcards, especially anything to do with the Border Regiment and Cumbria of old. Have you checked out the threads by IanT, some great photos there:

1 Border in Berlin 1958

Hi Chris, I prefer Tom if anyone is asking a question, it is more personal. I have a few more pictures of the Battalion life which I will be posting shortly. Mainly of the time in Gottingen.
