Amalgamation with 55th to form Border Regt. 1881

Amalgamation of 34th & 55th Regiments to become Border Regt 1881:
London Gazette page 3300 July 1 1881 listing 34th ( Cumberland) to become 1st Border, and 55th (Westmoreland) to become 2nd Border.
Also look at my posting in "The Early Years" section where on Feb 22nd 2012 I posted ( in two parts owing to attachment space) under heading " Short History Border Regt 1905" the relevant pages for the Border Regiment from an old book " Short Histories of the Territorial Regiments of the British Army" by R De M Rudolf 1905 (book long out of copyright) Click on the pages to enlarge and read text
As the regiment was only 25 years old when the book was written it would have been a “short history" if he hadn’t included the 34th & 55th!
