To find the full list of names of 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot in Cheriton Barracks on the 1871 census:

As usual when searching on Ancestry.co.uk for barracks, you need a sample name of a soldier who you know was in the regiment at the time.

Use James Williams, born 1836.

So go to “Search Census & Electoral Rolls” - “1871 Census collection” - Type in name “James Williams” and birth year “1836”. For “lived in” type “Cheriton”, then select the option “Cheriton, Kent, England”. Press Search key. Click on “1871 England census” and the required James Williams SHOULD be right at the top of the list as a soldier born in Islington. Click on his entry and it will come up with him on page 9 of 37.

You can now use the back and forward arrows to scroll back to the first page or forwards up to page 37. There are about 3,000 names in total which includes wives and children.

They appear to be alphabetical (roughly!) by barrack/building, so you scroll down and reach names like " Woodburn" etc, and then it goes back to "Abbot" etc, presumably having moved onto the next barrack block!

Here’s what you find for James Williams entry: (i.e. just page nine) Paul
