Hello all

I have been researching the Essex Regiment and Gallipoli for a number of years. I am compiling a history of the 29th Division Cyclist Company in Gallipoli which, as well as a platoon from 1/Essex ,included a platoon formed from men from 1/Border under Lt William Oswald Lay (later Brigadier,DSO and POW at Singapore). I have identified all the platoon commanders in the Cyclist Company and some photographs of individual members of the company. I am particularly keen to trace a copy of a photo of Lt Lay

Other Border Regiment members of 29 DCC included (number is Army Cyclist Corps number unless stated)

2403 Sgt G A Vines
2404 Cpl William Davieson
2405 Cpl Cyril Joseph Stead
2406 LCpl Charles J Barden
2407 LCpl Frederick T Hopper

Hi Clive,

Welcome to the forum....

Have you tried the Museum -Cumbria's Museum of Military Life

They will be most likely to have a picture of a long serving officer who spanned both wars...
