Just joined the forum.

My Grandfather served with 4th. Border Regiment in WW2 and his wife's Brothers were in the Border Regiment in WW1.

I have a number of photos and document that I will post in the relevant parts of the site, hope they will be of interest.

In memory of John Bardgett (15309 L/Cpl.), 11th Border Regiment who died 1st July 1916.

Hi,
I've replied to your WW2 posting. Any chance of details/ photos of his wife's WW1 Border Regt. connection?

( This is a later response to a reply to your earlier message now realising that "Helme" is a family name , not a reference to "The Helme" - the hill overlooking Kendal from Oxenholme area. Perhaps that is how the name originated though?)

As to Helme name, our family tale is that they originally came from Germany as Silver Miners to work in the mines of Cheshire.
