Hi All!!!

Does anyone have any information on this chap? I know he was from Scarborough and was formerly of the R.G.A.
Also that he was one of nine men killed by Big Bertha fire while resting in there camp at Parschendaele.

Briefly, because I guess you’ve probably already got this from CWGC? :
BRIGHAM, G. H. M. Lance Corporal 33574 Died 1st October 1917 Border Regiment 11th Bn. Grave Reference IV. D. 9. Cemetery COXYDE MILITARY CEMETERY, Belgium.
No doubt Spike will be able to tell you more as the September/October 1917 war diaries have not been transcribed yet. Brigham is on this page of Spike’s Lonsdales site: http://www.freewebs.com/granatloch/RH1.htm
plus he has a photo of the grave: http://s35.photobucket.com/user/spike10 ... l.jpg.html

Hi,

I have transcribed the 11th Border War diaries recently

There is not much to help over the period
In the Line - LA PANNE
29/9/17- Battn finding Working Parties for Front Line Battalion. B Coy carrying party led astray by HLI guide, which resulted in 1 O.R. being wounded and missing and 1 O.R. wounded (S.S.) 1 O.R. killed at BHQ.

30/9/17 -Battn finding Working Parties. 2/Lt D WALKER and 3 O.R. wounded, 2 O.R. killed, 1 O.R. Died of Wounds

In the Line 1/10/17- Battalion held left subsector of LOMBARDZYDE SECTOR. Dispositions unchanged.
2/Lt J.G.M. MARR wounded 5 other ranks killed, 5 other ranks wounded.

Probably the actual date (1/10/17) as opposed to d.o.w. from the other dates

33574 Lance Corporal George Henry Morely Brigham
Formerly SR/9873 R.G.A
k.i.a.  F & F  1/10/17
Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium
IV.D.9.
Born : Scarborough, Yorks.
Enlisted : Leeds, Yorks.
(From SDGW)

The battalion were in the Oost Dunkerque/ Coxyde area and the Germans were shelling the area with
heavy artillery, to such an extent movement by day was inadvisable. (Observation must have been good
for the Germans)

Don't know if you have Ancestry but some of his service papers have survived.
If you don't have Ancestry please get in touch as I have saved them onto my computer.

Just found out George Henry Morley Brigham was a bottle cleaner, a rather unusual occupation in this day and age, but not in the early 19th Century.
