1917 – 2nd January, postcard Prees Heath Camp, off to Barrow tomorrow, home later
. - 5th April Folkestone – about to sail for France
- 23rd April, Hut 17, A Coy, 3rd Border Reg, Moor Lane Camp,?????
- 23rd June, postcard from Field Post Off. 64
- 10th July, killed in action – Nieuport-Lombardzyde, Belgium reported missing1918 – May confirmed killed in action
I could do with a bit of help re 3rd Border Camps. I know that 3rd Border was a reserve battalion processing fresh drafts of men. A postcard in the Family indicate that he was with 3rd Border at North End Camp, Walney on 11/11/16, he set out for France on 5/4/17, but was back with 3rd Border on 23/4/17 at Moor Lane Camp.Any suggestions as to
1. Where was Moor Lane Camp? Maybe Wigton?
2. Why would Alf be in France on the 5th and back in Cumberland on 23rd?I've attached a photo of Alf, his cap has an ordinary Border badge - maybe his was lost in France when wounded. No idea who the other two are. I guess the photo was probably taken during his time at Alnwick Military Hospital.
Cheers

A quick google of Moor Lane Camp gives you many results- one of which coincidentally is on some houses for sale in Strensall Camp York- maybe they are connected with the school of musketry. Moor Lane runs fron Strensall Village to Strensall Camp- maybe some musketry retraining before going overseas again....

Thanks for googling Spike. I ordnance surveyed and came up with a Moor End at Thursby near Carlisle. I also contacted the Museum and they informed me that Moor End Camp was at Crosby nr. Liverpool. Another small part of the jigsaw! However I have absolutely no idea what Alf was doing there - he thought he was going to France three weeks before!! Peter

Is it Moor End or Moor Lane, Peter?
Youve asked about Moor End and
put in your post
"- 23rd April, Hut 17, A Coy, 3rd Border Reg, Moor Lane Camp,?????"
