4th Bn India May 1916

D Company 4th Border in India May 1916.

As it is captioned “India” I presume that it must be the 2/4th Bn ( who went to India), as the 1/4th Bn went to Burma ( or” Burmah” as the British tended to spell it then) and the 3/4th were a very short lived training unit which remained in the UK.

According to the (very edited) 2/4th war diary for May 1916 their location was :
" Headquarters, “C” and “D” Companies proceeded to Gharial Spur, Murree Hills, by route march, from Rawal Pindi. Arrived llth May."

(Note the 1/4th diary does not survive - unless some reader has a copy hidden in an attic?)
