I've never seen a picture of any similar guns WW1...

The weapons are French M1909 Hotchkiss.
Very popular with the troops, US bought some and were used be the Frecnh Army until the end of WW2.

The guns used by the pre-uniform volunteers was the Hotchkiss. See article.
