News and Notes - Whitehaven

THE PROPOSED ERECTION OF A TABLET IN A WHITEHAVEN CHURCH.

The parochial letter of  the Vicar (Rev. C. B. S. GILLINGS), in the current issue of St. Nicholas Magazine, contains the following:  - I have received a letter from Lt.-Col. G. H. le FLEMING in which he says: "The officers, past and present, of the 3rd Border Regiment would like if possible to place a small tablet in your church at Whitehaven, to the men of the battalion who died in South Africa during the war. Before taking any steps I am naturally writing you to ask for your sanction."By return of post I wrote to him to say that it gave me pleasure to comply with his request for space in which to erect the proposed tablet.
