Son of Lydia Fothergill, of High Stennerskeugh, Ravenstonedale, Westmorland, and the late William Fothergill.
Died as a prisoner of war in Germany

Born : Skelton, Cumberland
Enlisted : Carlisle, Cumberland
Resident : Skelton Road Ends, Cumberland
Thomas Hartness was posted missing on July 1st 1916, in the Battle of The Somme.
The army council eventually informed his family he was to be presumed as died on the 1st July. His body was never found and he is listed on the Thiepval Memorial.

Buried : Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport
Grave reference : IV.D.12.
Born : Bampton, Cumberland
Enlisted : Shap, Westmorland
Resident : Penrith, Cumberland
Steadman Newton died of wounds in a  base hospital, on the coast near Le Treport.
He is buried in a pretty cemetery in a rural setting, close to the sea.
His local vicar attended the funeral and wrote the following article about the funeral of Steadman Newton

Enlisted  : Appleby, Westmorland
Resident : Knock, Westmorland
George Parkin was reported as Missing  in January 1918 and his body was never recovered. He is listed on the memorial to the missing at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Passendale and is assumed to have died on 2nd December 1917.

Son of the late Isaac Stockdale; husband of Annie Mary Stockdale, of 2, Brougham St., Castletown, Penrith, Cumberland.
Born Enlisted and resident : Penrith, Cumberland.
Albert Stockdale was killed in action on the 15th April 1917 and his
body was never discovered or perhaps his grave was destroyed
in subsequent fighting. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial.
