Obviously you know the main Kendal war memorial, but are you aware of the WW2 memorial garden on Romney Road Kendal - 4th Bn names included on the plaque - see my previous posting

It's a bit hidden as it is behind a high hedge and is not signposted - I actually think hardly any Kendalians know that it exists!
Cheers Paul
P.S Romney Road is the one where you can turn right at the traffic lights coming into town from the south end of the bypass. It leads from the college area across the bridge towards Kirkbie Kendal School and the leisure centre

Incidentally I guess your ancestor is very probably on one of these photos on my old posting?

Yes he is, though not been able to spot him.
We do have a photo taken september 39 in Kirkby Stephen of him in service dress, 08 pattern webbing and FS cap which is labelled 6th Battalion Border, which is i believe the duplicate Battalion, but he was transfered to the 4th properly before they left for war and served in France with the rest of the lads.

What a grand spectacle that would have been and to know your ancestor was one of those guys too, even if you can't see; to know he was there among his comrades and cheered on by the public would be enough for me.

Would be interested to see the the photo you have of him in his service dress from Sept. 39.
