SHOOTING CONTEST AT CONISTON

On Saturday the last of the three matches arranged between the company (Hawkshead) 1st Volunteer Battalion Royal Lancaster Regiment, and the I company (Langdale) Battalion Border Regiment was decided on the Coniston Range. The two previous matches were contested at Hawkshead and Langdale respectively, with the result that each company won one match. The Hawkshead company being victorious Saturday have thus two out of the three matches to their credit.

The weather was not very favourable for the marksmen, there being an unsteady wind blowing during the afternoon. The last half-dozen or so of the competitors were somewhat handicapped, owing to darkness prematurely setting in and causing the targets at the 500 and 600 yards' ranges to rather indistinct, otherwise the shooting was good.

The ranges were the 200, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each distance. The following were the scores made :
