I found a reference to the death of Robert Priestman on findmypast in its newspapers section. From the Yorkshire Post and Leeds Intelligencer, 23rd April 1923:
"The death occurred suddenly on Thursday last at St. Hausern, St.Blasieu [sic], Black Forest, Germany, of Robert Priestman, a former fullback of the Furness Rugby Union Club, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Priestman, of Newlands, Cartmel."
It's also on the British Newspaper Archive.

Hi Mike,
with a bit of fiddling I've managed to create a jpg of part of the page (originally >1MB PDF). Not great quality this way.

Local knowledge , coming from the "Kendal direction" on the A590 towards Ulverston, " Newlands" is a hamlet is on your right , between Greenodd and Ulverston, just before Ulverston.
There is a church at Greenodd, but I could not find a memorial. Maybe he is on the one in Ulverston Market Square, but if he died in 1923, it had already probably been erected.
